Two Coudersport teenagers escaped injury on Sunday night when their vehicle struck a utility pole and a sign before hitting another utility pole head-on, shearing it in half. The crash closed Route 6 in Roulette Township for hours before utility workers could replace the pole and remove low hanging wires from Route 6.
Corry W. Gabersack, 19, the driver of a 2008 GMC Sierra, and a 17 year old male passenger, both of Coudersport, were wearing seat belts and weren't hurt in the 10:50 pm crash.
Trooper Travis M. Trimbur, who investigated, said the crash occurred as the teens were traveling east on Rt. 6. Their vehicle left the southbound berm of the roadway and struck a utility pole with the passenger bed side. It then continued in an easterly direction, striking a sign owned by Allegany Campground, before going airborne and striking another utility pole head-on, shearing off the pole. The vehicle then continued in an easterly direction before coming to final rest on the south berm.
The sheared off utility pole dropped wires dangerously low over Route 6 requiring Roulette Fire Dept. and Coudersport Fire Dept. volunteers to detour traffic for hours while crews from the Electric and Telephone companies replaced the pole and reattached the wires.
Roulette Fire Rescue, Ambulance and Medic 6 responded to the scene. Kightlinger's Towing removed the damaged vehicle from the scene.
