Steve just found out last week that he was one of 26 films accepted into Brazils largest film festival in Brazil.  The Festival is located in Paulinia, Brazil.  He will soon be traveling there for 10 days.  Congrats Steve!!!!

So I am still on my crocheting kick and found these adorable plonka hats on etsy. I think my new little Bean would look adorable in one of these. Don't you?

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Today I learned the beginnings of crocheting. I have practiced a tiny bit tonight and have tried to get the hang of it. The kind girl that taught me how to crochet was making really cute little black ninja dolls. :) I would love to be able to make these cute animals...one day....when I have time. ;) yeah, right.

I have decided that I am not good at any 1 thing, but do know the basics of many things such as knitting, sewing, scrapbooking and now crocheting. :)

Happy Father's Day!

This picture was taken about 2 years ago when Max was 3 and Madeline was about 8 mos.  Our family adores Steve and I am so grateful to have a husband who loves hanging out with our kids in his free time.

Happy Father's Day Steve!

Step 1: I bought this chip board at the S.E.I. outlet store in Logan, Ut. I then bought this Spring-y bright paper from the same store.

Step 2: I traced and cut the paper to fit each letter, used sticky craft glue to attach the paper.

Step 3: Add embellishments. Ribbon, pictures and even die cut coordinating flowers.

For Mother's Day I made these photo-album / MOTHER chip board thingees (so technical). I found my camera and retrieved these pics from a month ago. I think they turned out really cute and not too mormon-crafty looking. :)

Who are these mysterious children? Hmmm. These were taken at Laird Park where Max had his end of the year preschool party. There is a girl at the park that will make these crafts with your kids for $2. These sunflowers still adorn our Living room.

Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man

Dr. Sven Larsen was a student of Chief (Dr. Niles Caulder). They split after Sven said Caudler stole his idea for an anti-decay ray. When he fell in a pit of amino acid, he gained the power to turn into any mineral, plant or animal. So he tried to get his revenge on the Chief by destroying the Doom Patrol! But he lost both the battle and his powers (although he got them back!). He teamed up with the Norse god immortal General Immortus. But ended up frozen in a block of ice. His whereabouts now are unknown.

I have an extremely talented Mother-in-law when it comes to sewing. For Madeline's B-day she made her the cutest monkey from vintage fabric. She got the pattern from these wonderfully creative Australian Women at Melly & Me. They have created these delightful designs for homemade stuffed animals.

This last weekend while in Idaho my mother-in-law took me to a darling fabric store and gave me 3 of her patterns for the Melly & Me monkey, elephant and fish. I am so excited to make them for Max, Madi and baby bean.

I love flowers and anyone who has seen the front of our place knows that! We have a pretty small porch but I have hung three wood flower boxes, one on each side and filled them with bright beautiful flowers of all shades and kinds.

This year we have gone a more pinkish route in our color scheme, we usually do more of a wildflower - red, yellow white and purple scheme but this year has worked out beautifully.

Yes, these are my chubby/swollen pregnant hands planting flowers. It actually was a whole body shot, but I cropped it to just the tips of my fingers...ha! yes, I know I am being ridiculous and I should give myself a break. ;)

pink pink pink

If you are like me, you probably went through some phase in your life where you detested the color pink, mostly because of its cultural attachment to "girliness". Well, I have been there too but ever since I have had a little girl I adore the color pink and embrace it in its entirety - girly feminism and all. :)

Here is Mimi's pink party. I had so much fun thinking about what to do for it, now doing it was a whole other story. I told my mother in law that this was about 1/16th of what I wanted to do, but I was pleased with the end result. Our place has wonderful tall ceilings and great arch ways so it didn't look too crowded in the small space.

I'm not too good at the artsy fartsy photography yet, but here is a picture of my party favors. They are handmade felt flower clips and pins. They were actually quite easy to make and turned out to be adorable. I will try and take a better picture of one of Mimi's for a future "how-to" blog.

To the left there are pink crowns waiting to be decorated by the kids with jewels, sparkle puffy paint and sparkly poms poms. One of the boys that came to the party, Braden made the sparkliest prettiest crown there. Way to be in touch with your feminine side Braden!

This is her pink polka dot cake and pink cupcakes...the cupcakes are lemon with a yummy lemon curd filling. The cake was the same...mmmm...

Martha Stewart pom-poms hanging from the ceiling in all shades of pink...thank you Martha!

It was a fun fun day. We had friends and family there, Max was a good helper when it came to opening presents...Madeline received a ton of presents, some of which I am tempted to hide and bring out later so she appreciates them, right now she is on overload and doesn't realize how many new things she has. Wish my sis could be there, but one day she will be. Happy Birthday Mimi!

Red Tornado

A tornado entity was both good and evil (mostly good) tried to create a perfect replica of Earth. Although it did a good job, the one thing missing was the Justice League! So it split itself to become the planet's JLA. It called itself the "Tornado Champion". However he discovered he also created an evil entity called "The Tornado Tyrant". But the good entity defeated the bad entity by senting it to Earth were the real JLA defeated. The good entity had little satisfaction being an only a imitation. He met Thomas Oscar Morrow (a.k.a T.O. Morrow), who was building a android to infiltrate and destroy Justice Society of America. So the entity merge with the robot, with one side effect: Tornado Champion lost it's memory. Thinking he was the first Red Tornado (JSA member named Ma Hunkel) and tried to join the JSA, the member didn't recognizing the android and was suspected he was part of some evil plan, however he eventually joined.

I am constantly on the hunt for cute birth announcements. I found this absolutely adorable etsy store called Jack + Izzy. I love their products and they are all reasonably priced as well.

I love lilacs. They are extremely delicate and do not last very long (I think that these lasted about a day and a half before they began to wilt). But they smell wonderful and add such a splash of color to any room, I also love how they just naturally cascade over the vase.

In Cache Valley, where my parents live, there are huge lilac bushes in almost every ones yard. I was extremely tempted to go out after dark to people's yards with my scissors and cut huge bushels full of these lovely flowers...I never did it though, mostly because I was too tired, not because I worried about the whole trespassing thing. ;) Aren't you glad you're not my neighbor?

Amazing Armadillo girdled lizard

Just a pic of probably my favourite South African lizard or in the world. Cordylus cataphractus or the armadillo girdled lizerd is endemic to the SW cape and live in colonies of up to 40 individuals. They are live bearing and the babies are perfect replicas of the adults. They bite on their tail and roll themselves into a ball when threatened. They also hide amongst rock crevices and inflate

HTC Touch Dual PDA Phone

The HTC Touch PDA Phone received numerous accolades due to its innovative touch-based navigation system, which didn’t require the user to pull out the stylus while performing regular tasks. Riding on its success, the Touch range of phones currently spans three models. Today I’m taking its second iteration, the HTC Touch Dual, for a spin. Italdesign Giugiaro Quaranta Concept

This is a concept design of Italdesign Giugiaro Quaranta. It will be equipped with a mid-mounted hybrid 3.3L V6 powertrain supplied by a Toyota. The engine combined with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive produces a combined 268 horsepower and 212 pound feet of torque. The Quaranta is actually inspired by the 1968 Bizzarrini Manta concept, and the two take the wedge shape to an extreme. The

Most Expensive Easter Eggs in the World

Easter is coming and it might be a good idea to have a look at the most expensive Easter eggs in the world. They were produced by Peter Carl Fabergé and are made of precious metals or hard stones decorated with combinations of enamel and gem stones. Seven of the eggs were made for the Kelch family of Moscow. The term “Fabergé Egg” has become a synonym of luxury and the eggs are regarded as

How your fingers reveal so much about you

When we look at our fingers, we may think they are beautiful, ugly, refined, or stubby. We use them to eat, gesticulate, carry, point. But what do they tell us about our personalities? Why should football players generally have longer ring fingers than other men? What do fingers and sex have in common? Our fingers provide us with a wealth of evidence about how men and women differ, and how

Happy Birthday Mimi!

before & after

My mom had these chairs and table at her house and for a couple of Summers now we have wanted to make chair covers for them so we decided that this Memorial Day would be the perfect opportunity to make them.

My dad and Steve measured and cut the wood to fit in the chair. We then bought thick batting and outdoor fabric to cover the wood.

We pulled the material around the batting and wood and stapled to the back.

And voila! We kept the chairs old and rusted looking for a vintage feel.
