SMETHPORT - Dean L. Baldwin, 77, of Dugout Road, formerly of Eldred, passed away Sunday (Feb. 26, 2012) at his home following a long illness.
He was born July 5, 1934, in Wellsville, N.Y., a son of the late Henry and Ruth Clausser Baldwin. On Sept. 17, 1961, in Elmira, N.Y., he married Anne Cummings of Shinglehouse, who survives.
Dean was a 1952 graduate of Bolivar (N.Y.) High School. He resided in Eldred until 2004 when they moved to Smethport.
Dean served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving in Germany.
He then worked for Quaker State, which later became Petrowax Refinery in Farmers Valley for 34 years until his retirement in 1996. He spent many of those years as an operator in solvent extraction. He had also owned and operated Baldwin Aluminum Sales in Eldred for 10 years.
Dean was a member of the First Church of God in Eldred. He was a member and past president of the Eldred Lions Club, as well as a member of the Smethport Country Club and the Northern Star Masonic Lodge 555 F&A of Duke Center.
Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, riding motorcycle, and doing projects around the house. He had taken motorcycle trips, along with Anne, to Florida, Branson, Miss. and out west to Yellowstone Park.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Dean Scott (Becky) Baldwin of Smethport and Todd C. (Buffie) Baldwin of Eldred; one daughter, Joni Diane Kase of Sebastian, Fla.; three grandsons, James Kase of Rochester, N.Y., Brock and Brett Baldwin of Eldred; and two granddaughters, Heather Ilardo and April Kase of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elouise Baldwin, formerly of Utah.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Jim Kazimer officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
