Signup Period For Conservation Reserve Program
Landowners can sign up for the federal government’s Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) from March 12 to April 6. CRP is available to agricultural producers to help them use environmentally sensitive land for conservation benefits. Producers plant covers to improve the quality of water, control soil erosion and develop wildlife habitat. In return, the government pays rent and cost-share assistance.
Contract duration is between 10 and 15 years. USDA Farm Service Agency assesses the relative environmental benefits of each application. The Farm Service Agency office covering Potter County is in Coudersport and directed by Dave Stratton at 274-8522. More information is also available on the internet at fsa.usda.gov/pa.
