FARMERS VALLEY - Robert L. Brown, 83, of Digel Hollow, passed away Tuesday (March 6, 2012) in Sena-Kean Manor, Smethport, following a lengthy illness.
Born April 2, 1928, in Rew, he was a son of Warren G. and Lottie M. Slater Brown Sr. On June 7, 1947, in Smethport, he married Pauline L. Patterson, who survives.
Bob attended school in Farmers Valley and Smethport. He had resided on East Valley Road before moving to Digel Hollow. He also wintered in DeFuniak, Fla., from 1991 to 1998 along with Pauline.
Mr. Brown was employed on the family farm in Farmers Valley until 1949; he was then employed at the Belfast Supply Co. in Olean, N.Y., and Corning Glass Works in Bradford. He then spent 22 years employed by Quaker State before his retirement in 1990. He also drilled many water wells in the area with his own homemade drilling rig.
He was a member of the Northern Star Masonic Lodge #555 F&AM of Duke Center. He built, along with his family, homes on East Valley Road, Digel Hollow and in Florida. He also built and operated his own sawmill. He enjoyed hunting in Pennsylvania and fishing in Florida.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five sons, Fred A. (Linda) Brown of Eldred, Thomas (Bonnie) Brown of Farmers Valley, Charles (Lynn) Brown of Smethport, Richard Brown of Farmers Valley and Robert E. (Cheri) Brown of Duke Center; one daughter, Susan (Martin) Hagg of Smethport; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Dunn of South Williamsport.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; six sisters; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Frame Funeral Home in Eldred, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Rick Price officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Farmers Valley.
