Helen M. Tanner, 81, a loving mother and grandmother, of the Abbie Apartments, Lewis Run, PA

Helen M. Tanner, 81, a loving mother and grandmother, of the Abbie Apartments, Lewis Run, passed away Monday, March 5th, 2012 at the Bradford Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 8, 1930, in Farmers Valley, she was a daughter of the late Raymond L. and Florence L. (Anderson) Austin.

On December 11, 1948, in the home where she was born, she married John F. Tanner Jr. who preceded her in death on December 13, 1976.

Mrs. Tanner attended Bradford Area Schools.

She formerly worked at McCroy's 5 and 10, and later as a nurses aid at the Dresser Home.

She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Evangelical Church, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Eldred and a member of the Bradford T.O.P.S. Club.

Surviving are five children; two daughters, Ann (Gary) Howes Sr., of Bradford; and Carol (Don) Tracy of Rew, three sons John "Jake" (Liz) Tanner III, of Bradford; David (JoAnn) Tanner of Smethport, and Larry (Debbie) Tanner Sr. of Bradford; a sister, Roberta (Charles) Schmidt of Peyton, CO; two brothers, Jack (Bev) Austin of Longmont, CO; and Raymond (Beverly) Austin of Reynoldsburg, OH; 10 grandchildren: Sue McCrobie, Gary Howes Jr., Connie Shanks, Diane Dalton, Eric Tanner, Jennifer Tanner, Tony Tanner, Nathan Tanner, Sheri Tanner, Larry Tanner Jr., 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, Heather Howes and three brothers Harold, Denny, Steve Austin and one sister Myra Austin-Ascarrunz.

Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, March 8th, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. South Ave., and again on Friday, March 9th, from 10:00 to 11:00am, where funeral and committal services will be held at 11:00am with Rev. Max Simms, Pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park.
