Patriot-News editor receives National Press Foundation award for Sandusky coverage
It’s been the biggest story of his career.
David Newhouse decided last year to break the news his reporters had uncovered: that a grand jury was investigating Jerry Sandusky, the legendary former football coach who stood as an icon of goodwill.
At the time, it was not a popular choice with many Penn State fans.
When Sandusky was charged in November, Newhouse, the Patriot-News' editor, coordinated days and then weeks of rapid response to an ever-evolving story that cost Joe Paterno and Graham Spanier their jobs, and opened a dialogue of what Penn State is and what it should be.
