I take painstaking efforts to check and double check the information I find from my sources so that I am conveying correct information but, I'm embarrassed to say, every once in a while I miss something and post inaccurate information. Such was the case today. I posted on my list of today's observances that today was Purim, a festival that commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people living throughout the ancient Persian Empire from a plot by Haman the Agagite to annihilate them, as recorded in the Biblical book of Esther.
Purim, in fact, is not celebrated today. The date changes from year to year and the date for the Purim Festival this year is March 20-21. Please forgive my mistake. I will continue to strive to deliver accurate information in the future.
Thanks, Lisa

Lucky Door Hanger
With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner, I thought this simple little project might bring a little LUCK to your doorstep. This project is so easy to do.
Just grab an old muffin tin and coat it with a good layer of spray paint. I used green and then a pearl shimmer, but I also think gold would be fun.
Cut along the green lines with scissors.
Ink the edges of each cut circle with brown distress ink.
Ink the edges and around the muffin tin as well.
Adhere each image into the bottom of a muffin hole.
Punch or drill holes in the muffin tin if necessary (cropadile works great for this)
Add ribbon to embellish and hang.
Hang on door or inside house to bring a little Luck O' The Irish your way!

National Tooth Fairy Day
Quick Facts:
- Celebrated every year on February 28, although a few sources state August 22 as the date.
- Celebrated in honor of the Tooth Fairy.
- The creator and origin of this observance are unknown.
Losing a first tooth for a child signifies a rite of passage, they are growing up, but it can be a scary experience. The Tooth Fairy was perhaps invented as a way of easing the anxiety of losing a tooth and making the experience fun by giving the child something exciting to look forward to when the ordeal is finally over.
A child usually loses their first tooth between the ages of 5 and 7. The child places the tooth under his pillow when he goes to bed at night and sometime during the night the Tooth Fairy quietly sneaks in and slips the tooth out from under the pillow and slides some money in it's place. I remember receiving 25 cents, and our children received a dollar, I don't know what the going rate is now.
Pre-Tooth Fairy Legends
Throughout time, many cultures have developed bizarre customs for disposing of baby teeth. The Tooth Fairy did not actual come about until the early 1900's and is kind of a "modge podge" of some of the other legends and customs.
Europe- Centuries ago in Europe, it was a common practice to bury a child's tooth in the ground. There are two explanations for this practice. First, there was a fear of witches at that time. The belief was that if a witch got a hold of any piece of your body, such as a swatch of hair or your fingernails, they could put a curse on you. The children's teeth were buried in the ground to prevent a witch from snatching it and putting a curse on the child. Secondly, they believed if they buried the baby tooth in the garden a good strong tooth would "grow" in it's place. In modern times, "burying" the tooth under the pillow may signify burying it in the ground.
France - In France they talk of a "Tooth Mouse". This tradition is most likely based on a fairy tale dating back to the 18th century called La Bonne Petite Souris, which tells of a mouse that transforms into a fairy in order to help a good queen overthrow an evil king by hiding under his pillow, and in one instance, knocking out all of his teeth.
Several Spanish-speaking countries also have a tradition of a Tooth Mouse. The "Ratoncito Perez" character was created in the late 1800's by the priest Luis Coloma, when he was asked by the royal family to write a tale for their 8 year old son when one of his teeth had fallen out.
In Viking legend, the Vikings would pay their children for their expelled teeth and then they would string them onto a necklace or make other pieces of jewelry out of them because it was believed that the teeth were good luck and would aid them in battle.
In some Asian countries, when a child loses a tooth it is customary to throw it onto the roof (if it came from a lower jaw), or into the space beneath the floor (if it came from the upper jaw). The child then wishes for his or her tooth to be replaced with that of a mouse, probably owing to the fact that mice's teeth grow for their entire lifetime - presumably giving children a lifetime of healthy teeth.
It is unclear who the exact creator of the Tooth Fairy was. In the early 1900's stories about the Tooth Fairy began to grow and in 1927, "The Tooth Fairy", a three-act playlet written for children by Esther Watkins Arnold, was published. Then in 1949 Lee Rogow published a story titled "The Tooth Fairy" which is thought to be the first children's story written about the Tooth Fairy.
DIY Tooth Fairy Pillows and Bags
Many parents like to make the "baby tooth loss/Tooth Fairy" experience even more fun by making a cute little box, bag, or pillow to put the expelled tooth in while it awaits it's final destiny with the Tooth Fairy. Here are some examples of cute Tooth Fairy pillow ideas from around the blogosphere.

So I am a boot junkie....
It's just that when you wake up on a late February morning to this:
Sometimes the only thing that will break you out of the slump (like when you feel like you deserve a great reward just for hanging up your piles of laundry that have been stacking up for days on end-yeah me!) is to throw on an adorable pair of boots that can only be worn on snowy days!
Perhaps some that look like this: (Ok- maybe I just wanted to have an excuse to show off my cute snow boots, but can you blame me?)
It's just that they have fluffy fur cuffs and an adorable pink sole.
They almost make 6" of snow on February 26th bearable.
Okay, time to play with some spring paper to get me thinking happy, sunny thoughts! Can't wait to share some fun "birdie" ideas on Studio 5 next Friday.

Pearls Before Swine
Clockwise: Rat (Top right), Pig, Goat and Zebra the four main characters
Origin
Stephen Pastis (the creator of the strip) tried (failed) to get a comic called Rat (about a depressing philosophical rat) and The Infirm (about a struggle lawyer). He combined elements of both strips to make Pearls Before Swine. Several syndicates liked it, but weren't sure if it was marketable. However, United Media decided to put the strip on the Internet and see what kind of buzz it would make. Scott Adams (creator of Dilbert and fan of the strip) showed his fans the strip, which sparked enough interest for the strip to be published.
Characters
- Rat- He is a megalomaniac rat. He is self-center and acts out his own interest with disregard for other people's feelings. As such, everyone hates him (save Pig). He also thinks he is much smarter than he really is. He has been known to break the fourth wall to complain about the strip. He often writes very bad pieces of literature (such as Angry Bob Vol. I-III) that everyone hates.
- Pig- He is a kind-hearted, but naive and unintelligent pig. He is Rat's roommate and suffers the most abuse from him, but is dumb enough to think of him as a friend. He has a habit to talking to inanimate objects to the point of forming a "Fruit Buddy" club. His least likable trait is the fact is he is a cannibal.
- Goat- He is an intellectual goat. However, he can barely stand the stupidity of Pig and cruelty of Rat. He often criticizes the poor quality of Rat's literature (such as Angry Bob Volume II, where Bob "un-dies").
- Zebra- He is a zebra who tries to deal with the predators attacking him and his herd. A recurring gag early on in the strip is that his herd will do stupid things to try (and fail) to avoid getting eaten. He has a cat named Snuffles (who was revealed to be a terrorist).
- Guard Duck- He is a guard hired by Pig, because a guard dog was too expensive. GD starts as having a temper-problem, but was changed so he sees the whole world as a battle field. He often suggests militaristic solutions to problems in the neighborhood.
- Crocodiles- The main antagonists. The Fraternity of Crocodiles (the official name is "Zeeba Zeeba Eata") are a group of stupid crocodiles, who speak very poor English and have odd accents. Their main goal is to eat Zebra (who they called "Zeeba"), but never succeed.
- Larry-He is the dumbest of the crocodiles and is possibly the leader. However, he doesn't live in the Zeeba Zeeba Eata house. He has a wife, who is much smarter than him, and a son, called "Junior", who is not only smarter than him, but also a pacifist and vegetarian.
Name
The title comes from Matthew 7:6, where Jesus says "Neither cast ye your pearls before swine". In the context of this comic, Rat thinks he is the wisdom being wasted on "the swine" (Pig).

Alter Your T-Shirt with Shimmerz Coloringz
Every summer, I find myself buying all kinds of fun t-shirts with lots of awesome graphic designs. Last summer, I had this idea of altering white t-shirts with mist. While it was not a groundbreaking new idea, I was relieved that it went smoothly when I finally executed the idea successfully "on camera." I used the new Shimmerz products that you can find here, but Maya mists would work equally well.
So here is my video!
Giant-Size X-Men # 1
Plot
The X-Men (Marvel Girl, Cyclops, Iceman and Angel) and Havok and Lorna Dane are sent to an island to find a mutant, but all of them (save Cyclops) disappear. So, Cyclops told Professor X what happened. Prof. X gathered Storm, Nightcrawler, Bashee, Sunfire, Wolverine, Colossus and Thunderbird to save the X-Men. The team discover that the mutant that the first group looked for wasn't on the island. He is the island and feeds on mutants. So, the old and new X-Men gang up him and launch him into space.
Legacy
The mutants Xavier gather would later become the second generation of X-Men.

uber talented friends
Two friends of mine who just happen to live across the street made the cutest homemade valentines.
The robot valentine above was made by my friend Mary Ella. She drew the robot, took a picture of it and then uploaded it into photoshop where she colored it in and added the letters and numbers. Genius!
Above are these darling mustache (love mustaches) and lip valentines made by my friend Darcey. She brought 2 mustaches over for Max & Henry and 1 lip for Mimi. So clever! There are many tutorials on the web, above is a picture I found here at Blonde designs.
Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!
