These pictures I found online at Good Housekeeping and they make me happy to look at. I have made bread pudding twice this week and think it may become a Fall tradition. It is definitely a comfort food. Below is my bread pudding recipe I use.
Bread Pudding
1 loaf of day old french bread
4 cups milk
3 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 Tbsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp Allspice
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3 tbsp butter melted (1/2 cube)
1 cup coconut
(you can add walnuts, pecans, raisons, cranberries or anything else you like. I like it plain but if your family likes any of these they'd be yummy too!)
Turn oven on to 350 degrees. In a large bowl break the bread into small pieces. In a separate large bowl mix the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, allspice, cinnamon, butter and coconut. Add the dry bread to the wet mixture. and stir until the bread is soaked. Place the mixture in a large glass lasagna dish. Bake for 1 hour.
Sauce mix
1/2 cup butter
1 cup powdered (or regular) sugar
1 egg
I usually make this sauce just after the bread pudding is fully cooked. Bring the above ingredients to a boil on medium heat stirring constantly. Once boiling reduce heat to low for about a minute. This helps it thicken.
Dish out the bread pudding into a bowl and pour sauce over and serve. This is also yummy with vanilla ice cream.
Welcome to Fall!
