Steven Spielberg's "Adventures of Tintin" earns raves – AWARDS ALLEY

By Sean O'Connell Hollywoodnews.com: U.S. audiences will have to wait until Christmas time to see Steven Spielberg's mo-cap "The Adventures of Tintin." But European crowds are getting the animated adaptation much earlier (in about 10 days), and overseas critics are starting to weigh in.

Empire raved in its four-star review, writing, "The pace throughout is rat-a-tat-tat quick, the plot tripping along, and the exposition breathless. You have a job keeping up, but never at the expense of the sheer goodwill. While luxuriating in its pre-existing universe, here is a film imploring you to join in. It would take a hard heart to resist. … Action-packed, gorgeous, and faithfully whimsical: Hergé thought Spielberg the only director capable of filming Tintin. He was onto something."

Entertainment Focus, also in a four-star review, praised the film with, "Completely won me over with a heady mix of action and adventure seldom seen since the heyday of Indiana Jones."

Spielberg was first turned on to the character of intrepid reporter Tintin when European critics compared Indy to the classic cartoon character. Decades later, he's finally realizing his dream of making a "Tintin" movie.

Digital Spy in the next outlet to rave about the film's achievements. "Visually dazzling from the cut-out cartoon opening sequence (think 'Catch Me if You Can') to the breathless action, Spielberg turns a smart script (from Brits Steven Moffat, Joe Cornish and Edgar Wright) into a rollicking high-energy adventure movie."

Mission accomplished, folks. Now I am DYING to see this. Have been since the last trailer (below), which boasted some spectacular action set pieces.

But we'll have to wait. "Tintin" opens here on Dec. 21.
