On this date in 1982, Simple Minds released their eleventh single, "Someone Somewhere (In Summertime)". It was backed by "King Is White And In The Crowd". The 12 inch version included a third track, an instrumental called "Soundtrack For Every Heaven". The two tracks on the 7 inch single appeared on their sixth album, New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84), though the A side was a different version than was on the album. The 12 inch bonus track was a non-LP track. The single reached the #36 spot on the U.K. singles chart. Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill had started out together in a punk band called Johnny & The Self Abusers. They disbanded and Simple Minds was formed. The Glasgow, Scotland new wave band continues on.
