On this date in 1981, The Teardrop Explodes released their sixth single, "Passionate Friend". It was backed by "Christ Versus Warhol". The A side appeared on their second and final album, Wilder. The B side was a non-LP track. The single reached the #25 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The Liverpool, England post punk band disbanded in 1982 after two albums. Lead singer Julian Cope went on to become a successful solo artist. Keyboardist Paul Simpson formed The Wild Swans.
