hollywoodnews.com: It's not for a movie role—Steven Seagal has been sworn in as a real life Sheriff's Deputy. Hudson County Sheriff Arvin West deputized Seagal this week after the actor contacted him with interest in patrolling the U.S./Mexico border. Seagal will reportedly be working full time to help secure the perimeter.

"It became very clear to me that Mr. Seagal is not in this for the celebrity or the publicity," Sheriff Arvin West said. "He’s like the rest of us that live down here; he has a sincere passion for his country and he wants to do more to help."

Other staffers also supported Seagal, saying "He got really a taste of what we go through down here. We ran about 50 miles of the border and Deputy Seagal got a chance to meet the community and where he’s going to be working." The statement was made by department spokesman Gary Fleming.

Though the Seagal camp was not available for direct comment, it is interesting to note that this development comes on the tail end of a similar project designed for TV. Specifically, Seagal currently stars in an A&E Network reality show following his experiences as a reserve deputy in New Orleans.
