my cookies arrived!

The cookies I won here at lovetheday arrived in the mail. They were delicious bite-sized cookies all beautifully decorated. They asked what cookies I would like and I told them to surprise me. Today we found a package on our back porch and inside were these darling shades of blue winter mitten cookies. Needless to say they are all gone and we loved every bite.

Thank you Clara's Cookies and lovetheday!

our very own sugar-cookie star tree!

Last night we made our Christmas Trees out of star sugar cookies. I bought my star cookie cutters at Wal-mart. I got 4 for $3. Not bad. You can also buy some online here.

You just frost and stack, so simple. I added a little round sugar cookie cut out in between each star to give it some height. (I used the top of an old gerber bottle to cut the circles out with.)

I took a bunch of pictures while in the process of making them and realized when I got to my computer that my memory card was not in it! AAA! Such a Brooke thing to do. So I just got pics of the finished product.

I am going to let them sit for a while so the frosting sinks in and makes them nice and soft and then we'll deliver them to friends and neighbors.

I love this part of the Christmas season!

sugar cookie star tree

My mom came over yesterday to hang out with the kids while I ran some errands (which was such a life saver for me). When she walked in the door she came in with sugar cookie dough and various sizes of star cookie cutters.

Madeline squealed with delight when my mom said they were going to make a star Christmas Tree. Below is a picture of the tree my mom and Mimi made together while I was running errands.

Best Christmas tree I ever ate! The cookies in the middle were covered with frosting on both sides and after sitting over night were soft and delicious (and completely irresistible).

Above are some ideas for a more star trees. I especially would like to try the gingerbread one above.

For our family's favorite sugar cookie recipe go here. I am still on the search for a great gingerbread recipe. Anyone have a good recipe or know of one?

ANZAC Day

Nana Thomas would tell me stories about her first husband Bert Sergent and how he died for his country. He was in the Special Z force in the AIF. It was called Operation Rimau. He was killed by the Japanese in July, 1945. He was 26. Nana passed away just over two weeks ago. She was 89.

Grandad was in the Army. For 5 years he served our country. He was a head mechanic. He would fix the army

how does she do this?

I am still on my etsy kick, I just keep finding the cutest things on there. While perusing my friend Liz's blog I came upon cute polka dot cookies she posted and found these as well. They really are reasonably priced and perfect for a wedding, shower, party or a bit of self indulgence.

and ps...how in the world does she get that tiny and perfectly detailed little tea pot and cup on there?

Spring cookies

We were spoiled last week with beautiful Spring weather. It was wonderful, we were outside most of the day just playing. Yesterday the April (well, March) showers came and we were forced to be inside. We decided to make the most of it and make Spring colored cookies! Max and Madeline cut out the cookies and frosted them. Yum...would you like a little cookie with your frosting?
