Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day

Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day is celebrated every year on July 1st. The creator and origin are unknown, but one might deduce that this day was created in conjunction with National Ice Cream Month.

Ice cream is a versatile, frozen treat which lends itself to many flavors and flavor combinations, ranging from creative and delicious, to wierd and down right nasty. Let's take a look at some of the flavors out there. Which ones would you try?

Garlic Ice Cream.
This ice cream is given away free every year at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California. I love garlic, so I would probably like this one.

Licorice.
When I was a kid, we could get licorice ice cream swirled with orange sherbet around Halloween time. It was one of my greatest joys! It's not so easy to find now. This is from Fosselman's in Los Angeles.

Salty Licorice Ice Cream.
Salty licorice is a candy found mostly in Europe. It is an acquired taste. I like it, so I would probably like this ice cream too.

Candied Bacon Ice Cream.
This was created by David Lebowitz. It's weird, but it sounds yummy to me.

Haggis (Sheep Intestines)
Served at Morrelli's, an ice cream shop in London, England.

Blue Cheese Ice Cream

Basashi (Raw Horse Meat)
This is the weirdest one of all! Served in Tokyo, Japan, this ice cream contains chunks of raw horse meat, which is a delicacy there.
