flag banner

Ok, enough TMI, gotta do it every 6 months or so. ;) Back to more important things like crafting.. ;)
I made this banner for my sis and old friend, Wendy from DC about a month ago. Wendy's shower was held in DC, my sis flew out to attend and brought this flag banner with her. Rozzie (as I call her) ;) took pictures of the shin-dig below.

This party looked so fun, great job Liz and Roz!!
I posted the picture of the party favors above because I think they are adorable, I am going to have to ask Liz where she got them.

Wish I could have been there too. I love DC and loved my time there as an intern in 2000 (wow, 11 years ago!) Below are some pics I found of my time in DC with my wonderful roommate Emily and all the wonderful girlfriends I made (who sadly, I've lost contact with).
above: Emily and I at the Pentagon City Costco. I am holding bag from Sephora my favorite make-up store and the store I bought my first make-up from in my make-up intervention with my mom and sis while we lived in Paris when I was 19.
Some of the interns and I at a hotel we stayed in in Wilmington, NC. We all rented a big van and drove from DC to Wilmington (about 6 hours). It was a blast! I tried to get rid of our red eyes, but it just made us look weird. I am in the front on the far right with the white v-neck and weird black eyes. ;)

baby shower flag banner

I made this flag banner for my sister. Her good friend is having a baby and she asked me to make this for her. Her shower is Safari themed and had the green, blue, brown and orange in it and so I tried to get some cute fabrics with those colors.

I added on the words with felt circles and alphabet stickers. I then sewed them on by hand so that they could be removed easily and use just the flag as decor in the nursery. Hope-hope-hope she likes it!

paper flag banner D.I.Y.

Incredibly easy to make, just takes some time. Get 4 different colored pieces of 12x12 craft paper, you can fit 3 flags on one sheet. My triangles are 6 inches wide, by 7 inches long.

(I had some that had patterns on both sides which was nice because it gave me more patterns to work with).

Next, take your ribbon and lay it out straight, don't cut it until you have layed out all of your triangles. Then hot glue each triangle to the ribbon and cut.

You can add any embellishments you would like, I tend to go more simple, so I just added buttons. The letters are from any craft store, these are from an alphabet sticker sheet.

Et voila!

mirror before & after

I wish I had better pictures, but above is the mirror I bought from the DI for $10. I bought some "oregano" colored spray paint and washed off the hand-painted embellishments from the mirror, taped around the wood with painters tape so nothing got on the glass and sprayed....

...voila! A new green mirror that miraculously coordinates with the green side table in our Living Room.

flag banner & $2 DIY cake stand

I actually made them! The flag banners that is. Above is a picture I took of them. I am going to use them for Mimi's party and in her room when I actually put it together. I will post a tutorial this weekend.
Above are the two cake stands that Mimi and I made for her party.
1. I took an old glass shade from a ceiling fan we took down in our house (you can also buy them at the DI for about $.50 a piece)....
2. I Bought 2 plates from the DI for $.75 a piece.
3. spray painted the plate and the glass shade with spray paint, $2.50.
4. hot glued the glass shade to the plate and...
...voila! You have a cute new cake stand for about $2! I got this idea from design sponge, someone did this with candle holders as well and it looked great.

flag banner

I am working on a flag banner right now for Max and Mimi. So far I only have the material, printed pattern and about 3 triangles cut out. I will post the finished product in about a year. ;) In the meantime I will admire these adorable flag banners from paperfish.
