Happy National S'mores Day

Have you had a S'more yet this summer? You have? Well it's time to have "some more" because today is National S'mores Day.

No one really knows who created this holiday, just as no one really knows who created the first S'more, but aren't you glad they did?

The first recorded version of S'mores was a recipe found in the 1927 Girl Scout Handbook, entitled "Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts". Can you envision 10 little girls in pigtails and flannel pajamas huddled around a crackling fire, munching their very first warm, sweet, gooey, marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker sandwich? I can just hear them now, "These are so scrumptious! Can we have some more?" And that brings me to the next point, no one really knows when the name "Some Mores" was shortened to "S'mores". They were still being called "Some Mores" in various Girl Scout handbooks up until 1971, which was about the time I tasted my first S'more.

Now, in case you've been living your life frozen in a block of ice, and have never had a S'more, ask someone to build a fire to thaw you and make yourself a S'more by following the directions on this video.

Since today is everything "S'mores" here are some recipes you may enjoy:
And here are "s'more" fun ideas:
Sometimes I like to make S'mores using Keebler Fudge Striped cookies in place of the graham crackers and chocolate bar, and sometimes I like to use the new strawberry flavored marshmallows - yum!
