I wanted to dedicate this post to my in-laws, Gamma Kaffy & Gampa Kent.  Thank you - thank you - thank you for watching Max and Madeline this last weekend!  It has almost been a week now and not a day has gone by where Max and Madeline have not talked about one of the many fun things they did and learned while in Idaho.  Max tells me every day that he ate lunch on the Snake River and saw a two headed sheep! :)

I was able to organize some things in my home that needed much organizing (ex: kids toys, I took two bags to the D.I.) and was able to lay down.  A wonderful and rare opportunity.  There isn't a better feeling in the world than being able to rest while knowing your children are in excellent hands, with people they love and who love them.  Thank you again!

This adorable letterpress stationary is from dutchdoor.

My friend Quintin, who is a graphic designer sent me a link to this website called design sponge. I checked it out and am addicted. They have a whole section dedicated to d.i.y. (do it yourself) and before & after projects and I am smitten! I want to transform every boring piece of furniture in my house!

How many times have I been to the D.I. and seen a butt ugly piece of furniture such as this? I love creative people and copying their ideas...but I will always give props to those whose ideas I use. :)

So thank you gabrielle from mintage home and michelle goeke for being inspired and inspiring.

It was my mother's birthday this weekend so Steve and I stopped by this absolutely adorable new cupcake shop in Salt Lake called Mini's Cupcakes. I couldn't find any pics of their cupcakes as they are a new business, but I did find some to die for adorable cupcakes on the world wide web. (Don't these pictures just make you want to take out your cupcake pan and see if you can make something this cute?)

The cupcakes we bought for my mom were lemon cake with lemon cream cheese frosting and a sprinkle of lavender powder to make it sparkle, I mean my mom is the "Lavender Lady". ;)

p.s. Pictures of Memorial day will be coming this weekend! It was a blast!

Two Face

Harvey Kent a.k.a Harvey Dent was a friend of Batman. But one day he accused Sal Maroni, a crime lord, for murder. It was proved that he did it when Maroni's "lucky" two headed coin was found on the crime scene with Maroni's fingerprint on it. In rage Maroni threw Sulfuric acid at the left half of Harvey's face, scaring it. His horrible look caused him to go insane and scar one face on his coin. He flipped it to chose between a life of crime or good doing. Sadly, a life of crime won.
So he decided to decide everything on the flip of a coin. Thus one of the strangest and unpredicable ciminals, now calling himslef Two-Face was born.

For Christmas my dad got me a Canon EOS D60 camera.  I haven't been able to use it very much because I have been waiting for a wide angle lens.  Well, my dad sold me one of his and now I am ready to take a bazillion pictures this Memorial Day weekend.  I am very excited, especially if I can figure out how to use such a fancy gizmo

old home vs. new home

As Steve and I delve into the housing market we are forced to ask ourselves what we really want. Personally I really want to move to DC and Steve wants to move to either Brazil or NY (either of which I am fine with too)....but if life teaches you one thing it is that you don't always get what you want. :) So we have been looking at houses up north in the Kaysville, Farmington and Fruit Heights area. We went on a drive last Sunday and fell in love with the area. It is just so green and beautiful.

So...new home in a newer area with a few fixer-uppers, less mature landscaping and not really knowing what the neighborhood will be like in 10 years...

New home kitchen
(granite, stainless steel appliances, small fixes to look more my style)

or an older home in a more established area, with beautiful trees and farther east...but, and a BIG but, most of the houses are built in the 70's and tend to be ugly and dated looking and the inside needs a major cosmetic update...
Old home kitchen
(white, white, white and oak...NOT my style but very fixable)

New home living room...
(would love it if it were hardwood flooring)

old home living room
(they did do some fix up and I love the hard wood....)

Only time will tell. We're not planning on moving tomorrow...but sooner than later with baby #3.

Or maybe, just maybe we'll hold out for DC, NY or Brazil...you never know. I certainly don't!!!

Top 5 Infamous Batman Foes

You all know the Joker and the Penguin. But some of Batman's foes, like Zebra Man, one has ever heard of! So I plan on telling you about Batman's top 5 infamous foes.
5. Ten eyed Man
Philip Reardon was a warehouse guard. But one night a group of thieves knocked him out and planted a bomb. Batman came to stop them. Phillip (now awake) mistaked Batman for one of them and battled him. The bomb when off and blinded Philip. Dr. Engstrom (a eye doctor) reconnected his optic nerves to the end of his fingers (allowing him to see through them and giving him 360° vision). He blamed Batman for what happened and decided to get his revenge on him as the Ten Eyed Man.
4.Zebra Man I
Jake Baker was a high-tech scientist, who machinery gave him Black and white strips (made more visible by a glowing aura) and the power to magnetize anything. He went on a crime spree, before Batman and Robin defeated him.
3. Crazy Quilt
He was a painter for no appertain reason was a thief. When he was double crossed by his own lackeys, he was blinded by a gunshot wound during his arrest. In a volunteered procedure, a helmet was fused to his head, this caused him to see again, but he saw color blindingly vivid and disorienting. Now his helmet act as his eyes and can hypnotize people and project lethal lasers and blinding lights. During his life of crime he has run into Batman.
2.Spellbinder (Berbert Billings)
He was a pop art forger, that decided to be a criminal. So he built illusion-creating and hypnotic weapons and hired henchmen. Despite his luck in his first 2 robberies, he got busted by Batman.
1. The Terrible Trio
Three bored rich inventors wanted not to be bored, so they became Fox, Shark and Vulture (named after the cartoon animal mask they wore with their suits): the Terrible Trio. Their most recurring foe is Batman and Robin.

CRABMOMMY

I grew up in an extremely sarcastic family, when I am in public and with friends I find my self having to constantly check my sarcasm level for fear of offending someone or making them wonder who I really am.

Anyhow, I was searching the blogging world when I came across this blog called crabmommy. She seems hilarious, here is her "manifesto":

CRABMOMMY MANIFESTO

On this website I will never:
*speak of the enchanting constant joy and transformative wonderment of motherhood
*dispense little nuggets about what my child has taught me
*tell any mom to stop and smell the diapers "because it all goes by in the blink of an eye"
*make jokes about bowel movements and baby body fluids (because it's not my thing and it can be found abundantly elsewhere)
*use the word "miracle"
*count my blessings
*chart my child's developmental milestones
*seem to be in a good or grateful mood
*be mean about my friends or family because they'll get me back

what happened?

As I was sitting on the bathroom floor today in my mens small t-shirt, d.i. skirt and totally crazy uncombed hair and no make up (I had just wiped Mimi's bum) I thought for a second, wasn't I once cute? Didn't I actually take time to do my hair and make-up every single day, not just if I have to go somewhere?

Yes, yes I think I did once take care of myself on a daily basis...in a memory far far away now. Then I found these pictures just to prove to myself, yes Brooke you were cute and put together! Yipee!!! Now I just have to wait about 5 years after all my babies are out and in school to get this back again. ;)

actual professional pictures

I am not one to take professional pictures often, mostly because I am so particular and think ('think' is the key word here) that I can do just as good of a job.  Well, it's a lot of work and unless you have a nice aunt or grandma standing behind you making the kids look at you and smile at the same time it can be an exhausting disaster...

...so for Mother's Day this year I decided to get the kid's pictures taken by a professional.  I am not a fan of decorative backdrops and props and always go very simple and boring with the brown background.  I think the kids look adorable and I just love'em!

Look at those cheeks Max!  As a friend once said you could sprinkle some cinnamon on those cheeks  and just eat'em!!

For mother's day this year I woke up to a delicious French toast breakfast prepared by Steve, Max and Mimi. Max buttered my french toast and Madeline put the snow (powdered sugar) on. Steve then gave me a delightful little box from anthropologie. I opened it up and found these delicate earrings. Mine are actually a little different but they are the closest I could find. I took a picture with them, but left my camera at church (long story)

I then was sung to by Max with the primary during sacrament meeting. He kept smiling and waving and once he sat down he leaned over and asked me, "did you cry mom?" with a big smile on his face. Ha!
