‘Every dog has his day’ and this Miami born rapper is gleefully enjoying his, with the instant success of this second single from his forthcoming sixth studio album, Planet Pit (2011). Give me everything has absolutely got “something”, if not “everything”, to make this song a chart-topper in UK and claiming its place in the top 5 songs internationally. Like a bullet, this song has climbed the Billboard Hot 100 charts with its entry from 60th position to acquiring second place on the charts in no time! Talking about the element of “hotness”, it is undoubtedly a sizzling and scintillating number and has got the necessary oomph factor to become one of the “hottest dance party anthems” of this summer, along with Jlo’s “On the Floor” which also features none other than Pitbull!

The song features the sensational voice of Ne-Yo, along with the steaming hot voice of Nayer and of course some juicy rap by Pitbull. It kicks off with the powerful and highly infectious chorus by Ne-Yo, “Grab somebody sexy, tell ‘em hey, Give me everything tonight”. The lyrics are flirtatious and naughty and are sure to become one-liners at the disco bars. The song beautifully mixes the two very distinct styles of singing, R&B quality of Ne-Yo and the bizarre rap of Pitbull. The end result is a lethal combo, which makes the song catchy and funky at the same time.

The funny part is how Pitbull incorporates Kodak and Lindsay Lohan together in one song. Like all Pitbull songs, some of his rap does not make any sense like, “Cuz if you slip, I am gonna fall on top of you girl”. But his rhythmic line, “Excuse me, but I might drink a little bit more than I should tonight” got stuck and kept running in my head like a CD stuck on replay! So, no matter how cheap or simple the lyrics are, they gel surprisingly well with the pumping dance beats and the overall effect is so gripping that you just can’t deny it! Perfect for parties, discs and of course libido inducing activities, this song is a sure-shot hit and will stay on top of the music charts for a long time!

Final verdict: If you loved dancing like a freak to Party Rock Anthem (ft. Lauren Benett, GoonRock) by LMFAO, then you will simply ‘heart’ this awesome dance number! Put on some flashy clothes and shake that booty like a crazy party animal to this highly energetic and upbeat dance song. I am addicted to it right now and its one song I am listening to day and night since its video release. If you are feeling blue, I am sure it will put you in high spirits so, give it a go!

This hot red-haired Barbadian beauty has just claimed her winning streak with “Radio Artist of the Year” award at Billboard Music Awards 2011, leaving behind big names in the music industry such as Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. Rihanna’s fifth studio album, Loud (2010) has already got three international No.1 hit singles, Only Girl (In the World), What’s My Name and S&M. Now, with the release of her latest single California King Bed (CKB), will she be able to woo her fans and make this single, another international chart-topper?

Being an acoustic ballad with intense emotional theme, “California King Bed” is definitely a breath of fresh air after the very loud and very controversial S&M. It serves as a striking change of image and brings back the memories of 'good girl' Rihanna before she pulled off a 'bad girl' attitude with her best-selling single Rude Boy (Album: Rated R).

CKB speaks of the agony and pain of a fading love on the verge of collapsing. The song starts with gentle strumming and moves on to high-pitched chorus with powerful electric chords and drum roll. Rihanna has experimented with her impressive voice in previous piano-driven ballad Unfaithful (2006), so this is not a new ground for her to test her skills as a varied singer who can sing a song heavy on lyrics and make it work with her vocals. So the question is: Did she succeed this time in making CKB a memorable Rihanna track?

While the lyrics are touching and the heart-felt singing makes it a must-have song in your collection, it cannot beat the signature style of ‘loud’ Rihanna which we have become accustomed to listening. The tune and the mood are captured brilliantly in the song and for heart-broken lovers, this song provides a much-needed vent and maybe a few tears as well. But it lacks the magnetic quality that makes a song resonate in your ear again and again.

I can listen to this song many times and not get bored because of its good singing but it lacks the depth of an 'unforgettable number'. If I compare it with classics such as Careless Whisper (1984) by George Michael and Right Here Waiting (1989) by Richard Marx, which soak me in their aura right away and give me goose bumps with their deep and meaningful lyrics matched with ultimate singing quality, CKB is in no way at par with this high-class soulful music.

Backing this song is a plain and simple video, with an 18-feet long bed and a beefy half-nude man with water dripping down his body to build up the hotness meter. With a little more creativity and effort put into this video, it could have given a much better result. Also, with the help of facial gestures and body language, it would have shown more emotional connection (reminiscent of the lost chemistry) between the couple. Overall, the whole packaging looks good with wide angle shots and soft lighting to set the mood of the song.

Final verdict: Good song but not Rihanna’s best work! She should stick to her formula songs which flaunt and suit her persona, such as Umbrella (2007) and Rude Boy (2010). Till date, Rude Boy remains my favourite track and I would love to hear this type of fast and hip tracks from her, instead of slow numbers.

Music Review: On The Floor (Ft. Pitbull)

J Lo’s latest club track is making waves with its video release on VEVO (YouTube), showing J Lo’s sensuous ass-shaking moves and her flowing hair (lots of hair!). The first track in J Lo’s upcoming album, Love? and much-awaited single, “On the floor” is already doing well on the charts with its upbeat tune (which samples 1989 hit single, Lambada) and lots of techno synth beats. The song has a European dance flavour induced with Latin elements of music, which we have witnessed before as well in most of J Lo’s previous songs. “On the floor” also utilizes Pitbull’s Rap at the beginning and end of the song, which gives it a retro and hip feel, quite well-suited to the club theme of the song and keeping in mind the current pop music scenario.

Now the inevitable question: Has the song managed to drag party people on the floor and dance their sanity away (like J Lo’s says, “if you are an animal, then tear up the floor”)??? While the electrifying start is pretty “pumped up” with Pitbull’s rap, the middle gets a bit generic and fails to keep disc floor burning. But don’t worry folks, because J Lo tries to put a lot of attitude with her sexy voice and her signature style which ultimately saves the song from being a turn off. It sure has the ability to make you “break a sweat” all night long on the floor. The song uses city names which present a certain connection and give an international pull to the song.

When I listened to it the first time, I felt that while it certainly has the flair and got me into that groovy mood; maybe it lacks enough high to keep it shaking all the way. But I had to change my stance because when I listened to it a couple of times, it kind of stayed with me and I started humming along. Though, I would still rate Rihanna’s Don’t Stop the Music(2008) and her early dance floor classic, Pon De Replay(2006) much high on the scale because of their instant gripping quality which still blows me away!

Final verdict: J Lo’s comeback single is a great addition to disco tracks, like she says, “Don’t stop, keep it moving, put your drinks up!” It sure keeps you on your feet while you “grab somebody, drink a little more!” For someone who likes catchy tunes, this song provides that kick for dance lovers and party animals.
