Super Capes for My Super Heros

 I love to give a handmade gift to each of my nephews for Christmas. This year, I decided to make SUPER HERO CAPES! They were so fun to create and the boys loved them. Check out the photos and easy how to below.

I created a pattern for these capes out of butcher paper before cutting the fabric.
For the background pieces I used solid colors of flannel.  Adding the boys individual names to each cape made them a little more unique.







I freehanded the "Pow" shapes out of yellow felt (you can do it!)

You can die-cut letters from felt at many paper crafting stores. *Hint- put your felt on adhesive backing before die-cutting and your life will be much easier

After ironing letters and pieces onto the flannel, I stitched through each piece to give it extra support and a fun whimsical look.






This is the inside flannel for the capes.  I added a little felt heart in the bottom inside corner of each cape to remind the boys how much I love them.

 After sewing on all of the elements and sewing the cape together, I added a little ball trip to the bottom edge.

Happy Go Caroling Day ~ Dec. 20

Today is Go Caroling Day. Christmas Caroling has pretty much gone the way of the hand muffs, petticoats and bonnets. You don't see it too much anymore. I remember as a teenager, our youth group climbing upon a truck pulled trailer, filled with hay, to go Christmas caroling. It was so much fun to drive up and down the quiet streets of our neighborhood as the snow gently fell and glistened in the moonlight while we sang every Christmas carol we knew along the way. Of course it didn't hurt the fun factor a bit to have the cute boy that I liked (and that I had spent the last hour dolling myself up for) sitting right across the trailer from me.

Maybe the creator of Go Caroling Day wishes to bring back this long lost tradition and revitalize the joy of the Christmas caroling experience.

Here is an innovative way to do it - new age Christmas caroling - "flash mob" style. Alphabet Photography Inc. organized this 100 member flash mob to wish everyone at The Welland Seaway Mall in Niagra Falls, Canada, a Merry Christmas. As of now, this You Tube video has received over 23,500,000 views and has gained more attention than it's organizers ever imagined it would. How much fun is that?! Enjoy!

Rolled Roses Ornament

I made a fun rolled rose ornament a few days ago.  It is a very easy project, though extremely time consuming, but oodles of fun, and definitely very pretty!

Supplies you'll need:

Rolled Rose Die from My Favorite Things, lots of scraps of paper (I used a ton of October Afternoon Very Merry, Collage Press Joyride, Cosmo Cricket Holly by Jolly), a box of pearl head pins, a foam ball, and a little bit of ribbon.

Steps are simple: Die-cut a rose, roll the rose, pin it to the foam ball.

Repeat the process many times until the entire foam ball is covered by pretty roses :)

Pin the ribbon onto the foam ball and hang it on your tree!
