Purple Apple Enterprises

My mom is starting her own business using her Lavender fields and Apple Orchard. Her farm is full of sweet smelling lavender planted by Peggy and vintage apples planted by our ancestors.

I am helping them start up a little blog about their products etc. Their blog is called The Purple Apple. They have already set up an official website which, I am going to put a link on my blog to their store in the next couple of days. Here are few things my mom and my extremely talented cousin Kristy are working on:

Bove's Italian Lasagna

Steve and I the other night were watching Throwdown with Bobby Flay on the Food Network and saw him competing against this man from a small town in Vermont who made this amazing lasagna. So we went online got the recipe and made it one night. Oh my GOODNESS, it was AMAZING!! :) As Steve and I were slaving away on our 100 pound lasagna, Max, Natalie and our sweet neighbor Dax were playing on the porch. :) I love summer evenings (even though it's not quite Summer yet).

a beautiful day

Here is my family sitting on our porch during the wonderful, beautiful months of the Spring and Summer.

Today began with sunshine! I felt liberated. I am not one for the dark, dreary, cold Wintertime. Why do I live in Utah? hmmm...just kidding I love Utah, but I wouldn't mind a more sunny and bright location. Perhaps one day. I like to be outside a lot and I become a hermit between the months of Oct.-April which definitely puts a strain on my social life as I hide in my house/cave. But today I was outside all day with the kids and it was a delight.

I love these hand puppets by the Martha Stewart craft line. I know they are not completely handmade but the kids do need to put them together themselves and they are really cute when they are done. They are only $1.75 which makes for a great and inexpensive project. Max has the aligator and parrot, and Mimi has a spotted dog. So cute. There are a total of at least 20 different puppet designs.

(Sophia is from both sides of the family, Kathryn is Steve's moms name)

(just like the name Grace)

bitter? yes!...hopeless? never!

So this to me is such an ironic saying. I have been telling Steve for the past year or so that I am more than happy to bloom...just PLANT ME somewhere! Steve and I have been married for 6 years and during this time I have lived in 4 wards. My whole life I have always surrounded myself with friends and people I enjoy hanging out with. But in the last 6 years I have had to watch whole groups of friends move away and start all over again. And quite frankly I've been hesitant to invest in any of these friendships because it is just too hard to watch them go.

I understand that I should just suck it up and accept that, that is what life is all about, but I emotionally can't these days. It took me 6 months to be able to get over the last group that left. I would drive to the grocery store and come home feeling so lonely and crying because on the way to the store I passed all of their houses. I want roots, I want to go somewhere where people aren't getting to know "who I am". I know who I am and and it really bites to have all these people who knew you leave and you're left to help the new "group" understand who you are. Bitter? Yes. :) Hopeless? Never!

(As far as I can tell no one really reads my blog so I will go on venting, it feels good... and because my parents can't stay in one place I don't even have a home ward or neighborhood to go to. I am soooooooo sick of having to introduce myself to people all the time. It would just be nice to go to a place, ANYWHERE where people aren't strangers. Sizing you up, trying to figure out who you are. Having expectations or criticisms...I just want to be HOME. Where in the crap is that? Nowhere yet.)

Few! That felt GOOD...now I will go on writing about happy things. ;)

i heart max

If anyone wonders why Max has, and always will hold a special place in my heart, it is because of this face. How can you look at this baby boy and not fall in love? :) It's amazing how he has changed. His curly blond hair is gone, but the things that have stayed the same are his big blue eyes, jolly laugh, pinch-able cheeks and general good nature. I heart Max!

our first apartment

This is a picture of our first apt. in the Avenues after we got married. I was in love with this apt. It was 400 sq. ft. had 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom with this vintage purple, lime green and black tile in it that was so cool. The entire apt. had hard wood floors (except the kitchen) with this fabulous wood moulding around the windows. It was magical.

Madeline loves to play dollies (barbies). She always asks me to play with her, but when I can't play she asks Steve. She hands Steve the Malibu Ken doll and tells him to play. He takes Ken and with his best feminine voice asks the barbies if his hair looks okay...

...by this time Max swoops in with his 'tough' Bionicles and tries to scare the dolls. Steve uses his Ken doll and asks the bionicles if they want back massages. Max never knows how to take this so Steve proceeds to ask them in for some freshly baked pie and strawberry preserves.

Anyhow, it is hilarious to listen to. Max gets so frustrated that he gives up being scary and plays somewhere else in the room.

So i look at all of these blogs that people create that have a certain "style" to them. So I keep trying to figure out my style. And I've come to the conclusion that I don't really have a style. I am not super cool and hip, although I love the 'look' and want to learn how to make certain things. I'm not a die hard handmade person, although I appreciate the skill and vision it takes for people to come up with such unique and beautiful handmade things. I love old things, new things, crafty things and everything in-between. So I'm going to stop trying to figure out my style and just post what I like, even though it doesn't quite flow. :)

55 Mexican cooks worked hard to create the world’s largest cheesecake. The giant cheesake was presented to the world on january 25, in Mexico City.
